Senior Software Engineer II – Identity & Notifications Team

Impact:
Own the systems that power Homebase’s “Passport to Work” vision: authentication, authorization, role modeling across a complex multi‑tenant context, and a scalable notification infrastructure that keeps workers and business owners informed in real time.

• Own identity end‑to‑end: design and build authentication, session lifecycle, and authorization systems for a multi‑role, multi‑employer context.
• Model complex authorization: lead the design of RBAC/ABAC systems reflecting real‑world small business team structures.
• Build scalable notification infrastructure: design and operate push, email, and in‑app delivery at scale with routing and preference management.
• Drive architectural decisions: write RFCs, lead design reviews, and set the technical direction for the domain.
• Ship with velocity: break down ambiguous problems, make high‑quality decisions, and deploy working systems quickly.
• Integrate AI tools: use code‑generation, security review acceleration, and AI for notification personalization and abuse detection.
• Elevate the team: mentor peers, share knowledge, and raise standards in design and code reviews.
• Collaborate across the stack: partner with Product, Security, and domain teams to deliver identity and notification capabilities.

• At least 5+ years of backend engineering with production ownership at scale.
• Deep expertise in identity systems: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, token lifecycle, session management, RBAC/ABAC, policy‑based access control.
• Experience designing multi‑tenant identity models for users with multiple roles across organizations.
• Hands‑on experience building or operating notification infrastructure: delivery pipelines, fan‑out architecture, user preference management, push/email/in‑app routing.
• Strong command of at least one backend language (Ruby, Go, Python, or similar) and relational database design.
• Track record of leading technical design: writing RFCs, driving alignment, and delivering in ambiguous contexts.
• Active AI fluency: use tools like Git Hub Copilot or similar to accelerate work and measure impact.
• Security‑minded by default: design with abuse, spoofing, privilege escalation, and data privacy in mind.
• Clear, direct communicator who translates system complexity into actionable decisions.
