Job Description Summary

The Specialist Software Engineer is focused on the design and development of web and cloud technologies to support an agile digital business. This role helps define web and cloud strategies, grow capabilities, and develop enterprise-wide solutions by providing technology leadership, insight on new developments within the application solution space, and guidance in design, framework, and platform decisions.

Responsibilities

Design and implement cloud‑native architectures on AWS following Well‑Architected Framework principles
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and infrastructure provisioning
Develop serverless and containerized applications using Lambda, ECS/EKS, and API Gateway
Implement Infrastructure as Code using Cloud Formation, CDK, or Terraform
Design and optimize data storage solutions (DynamoDB, RDS/Aurora, S3, Elasti Cache)
Establish security best practices including IAM policies, encryption, and network security
Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Lead analysis and complex architectural design across platforms toward the development of end‑to‑end solutions; translate architectural guidance into detailed technical design.
Work collaboratively with other development staff, including contract and offshore software engineers, and business product owners in an agile environment.
Serve as a subject matter expert for a wide range of areas, applications, and technologies.
Recommend solutions which take into consideration costs, business needs, and system impacts.
Learn and keep pace with the latest advances in the field and rapidly grasp new technologies to support the environment and contribute to project deliverables.
Prepare presentations and lead development meetings.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, math, engineering, or other technical field, or equivalent experience
6 years of software development experience with 5+ years focused on AWS
Deep expertise in core AWS services: EC2, Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, VPC, IAM, Cloud Front, Route 53
Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Cloud Formation, CDK, or Terraform)
Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Python, Node.js, Go, or similar)
Experience designing event‑driven architecture using SNS, SQS, Event Bridge, or Kinesis
Solid understanding of networking (VPC design, security groups, NACLs, Transit Gateway, Private Link)
Experience leveraging continuous integration/development tools (e.g. Jenkins, Docker, Open Shift, Kubernetes) in a CI/CD pipeline
Strong knowledge of security best practices (IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, WAF)
Experience with observability tools (Cloud Watch, X‑Ray, Open Telemetry)
Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (ECS, EKS, Fargate)
Expertise with microservices and REST‑based API development (e.g. Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Entity Framework, IIS, Swagger, OData, .NET API 2, .NET API Core, Auto Mapper)
Attention to detail and results oriented, with a strong customer focus
Technical communication skills and the ability to present information to all levels of the organization
Problem‑solving and technical communication skills
Ability to prioritize workload to meet tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree
Understanding of advanced analytics and machine learning concepts and technology implementations
Experience with big data and real‑time streaming analytics processing architecture
Experience with data warehousing architecture and implementation, including source‑to‑target mappings and ETL
Technology or platform certifications (e.g. AWS, Microsoft)
Knowledge of the financial services industry
AWS Solutions Architect Professional or Dev Ops Engineer Professional certification
Experience with multi‑account strategies (AWS Organizations, Control Tower)
Knowledge of data engineering services (Glue, Athena, Lake Formation)
Experience with AI/ML services (Bedrock, Sage Maker)

Working Conditions

Hybrid Office Environment (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays)
Work outside of normal business hours may be required
