Key Responsibilities
At Laura Mac ,we’retransforming the mortgage technology ecosystem with scalable, secure, and high-performing software. As aTech Lead,you’llplay a dual role — acting as both ahands-on engineer and atechnical leaderfor a Scrum team composed of5engineers and 2 QA.
You'll own the delivery, quality, and scalability of your team’s sprint deliverables while staying deeply involved in the codebase. Working closely with aStaff Engineer,you’llalign on architecture, contribute to shared technical initiatives, and uphold engineering excellence across the organization.
Team & Delivery LeadershipServe as the technical leaderfor your Scrum team, ensuringtimelyand high-quality delivery of sprint goals.
Work hands-on as an individual contributor, contributing code, conductingcode & design reviews, and solving complex technical challenges.
Drive sprint planning, estimation, and execution in partnership with Product Management and QA.
Ensurepredictable, on-time delivery while balancing short-term sprint goals with long-term technical health.
Promote agile best practices, collaboration, anda strong senseof ownership within the team.
Technical Execution & OwnershipDesign, develop, andmaintaincritical components inJava,Angular, andMySQL, following modern engineering practices.
Ensure solutions meethigh standardsofperformance, scalability, and reliability.
Uphold and apply architectural principles, coding guidelines, and system design patternse stablishedby the Staff Engineergroup.
Lead technical design discussions, propose improvements, and guide the team through implementation details.
Participate in cross-team collaborations on shared libraries, CI/CD improvements, and platform-level enhancements.
Quality & Continuous ImprovementDrive a culture of engineering excellence, emphasizing code quality, maintainability, and automation.
Collaborate with QA engineers to ensure robust test coverage and high-quality releases.
Proactivelyidentifyand reduce technical debt through refactoring and better design practices.
Support continuous integration, deployment, and monitoring in partnership with the Dev Ops team.
Mentor engineers within yourteam, helping them grow technically and professionally.
Collaborate with Staff Engineersfor architectural guidance, technical reviews, and systemic improvements.
Foster clear communication across engineering, QA, and product teams to align priorities and resolve blockers efficiently.
QualificationsRequired:
7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in aTech Lead or senior individual contributorcapacity.
Strong hands-onexpertisein
Java (Spring Boot or equivalent),Angular, andMySQL.
Proven ability to balance leadership responsibilities with active development work.
Experience leading Agile/Scrum teams and ensuringdeliveryquality, scalability, and maintainability.
Strong understanding of software design principles, system architecture, and performance optimization.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across disciplines.
PreferredExperience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
Familiarity with event-driven architectures or microservices.
Exposure toDevOps practices, observability tools, and production monitoring.
Passion for technical mentorship and continuous improvement.
