Specialist Software Engineer

The Specialist Software Engineer focuses on the design and development of web and cloud technologies to support Annuities Customer and Advisor experience portals. The role defines web and cloud strategies, enhances capabilities, and delivers enterprise‑wide solutions by providing technology leadership, design guidance, and platform decisions.

Lead the analysis and complex architectural design of end‑to‑end solutions across platforms, translate guidance into detailed technical design, and collaborate with development teams and product owners in an agile environment.

• Work collaboratively with other development staff, including contract and offshore Software Engineers, and business product owners in an agile environment.
• Code, test, identify, implement, and document solutions to business challenges utilizing web and cloud technologies.
• Perform design and analysis for deliverables.
• Lead large team design sessions.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for Annuities applications and technologies.
• Recommend solutions considering costs, business needs, and system impacts.
• Utilize third‑party software development frameworks, open‑source libraries, and APIs to rapidly develop basic application solutions.
• Learn and keep pace with the latest advances in the field and rapidly grasp new technologies to support the environment and contribute to project deliverables.
• Prepare presentations and lead development meetings.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering, or other technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Six years of Core Java experience.
• Expertise in coding platforms/frameworks (Java, OOD, OOP, functional programming, Spring Framework, J2EE, SOA, dependency injection, core architecture).
• Experience with modern front‑end frameworks (Angular, React, Vue.js, Node.js, HTTP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Docker, Open Shift, Kubernetes, container automation).
• Five years of experience with integration and service frameworks (API Gateways, Apache Camel, Swagger, Zookeeper, Kafka, messaging, microservices).
• Expertise with microservices and REST‑based API development (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Entity Framework, Swagger, OData, Auto Mapper).
• Five years of development experience with AWS cloud services (EC2, ECS, S3, Kinesis, VMs, SQL data warehouse, ARM templates, Event Hubs).
• Expertise in build and deployment tools (Visual Studio, Eclipse, Git/Bitbucket, Maven, Nexus, SQL Management Studio, JUnit, Ajax).
• Advanced understanding of software development and research tools.
• Attention to detail, results orientation, and strong customer focus.
• Competence to work collaboratively or independently.
• Problem‑solving and technical communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize workload to meet tight deadlines.

• Familiarity with AI tools such as AWS Q Developer and AWS Kiro.
• Experience with big data and real‑time streaming analytics architecture.
• Technology or platform certifications (e.g., AWS, Microsoft).
• Knowledge of the financial services industry.

Hybrid office environment (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Work outside normal business hours may be required. Moderate travel (10–25%).

Annual salary range: $131,000–$165,000. Eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance. Salary may vary above and below the stated range in accordance with applicable law. Relocation assistance not provided for this position.

Work location:

three days in office per week in one of our hub locations (Philadelphia, PA; Cedar Rapids, IA; Denver, CO).
