Position: Staff Software Engineer, Streaming

Overview

Judi Health is an enterprise health technology company providing a comprehensive suite of solutions for employers and health plans, including Judi Rx, Judi Health, and Judi®. We are rebuilding trust in healthcare in the U.S. Hybrid work arrangement: 3 days in offices (NYC, Denver, CO, Charlotte, NC).

Position Summary

Judi Health is building the technology infrastructure our nation needs to deliver the healthcare we deserve. The Architecture organization defines the standards, patterns, and infrastructure primitives that engineering teams rely on to move fast and build correctly. The Realtime & Streaming team owns the streaming infrastructure used by services and data consumers across engineering for timely, correct event delivery. As a Staff Engineer in Architecture, you will influence not only what you ship but also the standards and documentation that guide event-driven systems across the organization.

Your work serves platform consumers such as cache invalidation systems, analytics pipelines, and change-data-capture subscribers with varying latency and ordering requirements. You will scale delivery while honoring per-consumer SLAs and keeping historical and real-time data in sync.

One of your first major initiatives will be leading the migration of our data warehouse synchronization layer from batch-driven processes to a unified WAL-based realtime pipeline with an open table format as the canonical source. This spans the streaming path from WAL replication to downstream analytics systems like Redshift and Snowflake, shaping and leveraging native streaming and ingestion capabilities as migration progresses.

Position

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and operate the WAL replication and event streaming platform used by cache invalidation, data warehouse synchronization, and change-data-capture consumers for correctness and low latency
  • Own the full lifecycle of the streaming platform — replication topology, delivery guarantees, operational recovery, and post-incident reviews
  • Define and own the performance and correctness contracts between the streaming platform and dependent services
  • Lead the migration of batch-driven data warehouse synchronization to a unified WAL-based realtime pipeline, establishing an open table format as the canonical analytics source
  • Drive adoption of event-driven design best practices across engineering; provide architectural guidance and make correct consumption of the streaming platform the default
  • Set the technical bar for the Realtime & Streaming team through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship of senior engineers
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to provide operational support and rapid incident response
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of production engineering experience with deep specialization in realtime data infrastructure and event streaming systems
  • Production experience designing and operating WAL-based or log-structured replication systems (e.g., PostgreSQL logical replication, Debezium, Kafka Connect) at production scale with delivery guarantees, lag management, and recovery
  • Deep understanding of event streaming correctness: ordering guarantees, at-least-once vs exactly-once delivery, idempotency, and propagation to downstream consumers
  • Experience leading batch-to-streaming migrations replacing polling or batch-driven synchronization with event-driven architectures
  • Fluency in systems-level languages (Rust, Go, or C/C++) for high-throughput, low-latency data plane components
  • Proven track record leading cross-team technical initiatives and producing durable documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to provide architectural guidance to the broader organization
  • Ability to operate with ambiguity, identifying the right approach and delivering to production from first principles
  • Experience supporting 24/7 production on-call rotations and incident response outside of standard hours
(Optional)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Systems-level programming in Rust for high-throughput streaming components
  • Experience with open table formats (e.g., Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Parquet) as storage layers for streaming and analytics
  • Hands-on experience
