Aerospace or satellite experience is not required. If you can build reliable, production-grade software, the space side can be taught.
I’m partnering with a fast-growing space technology company that is transforming how satellites are operated through modern, cloud-native software.
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help build the foundational systems behind a platform used to manage and automate satellite operations. This is a hands‑on backend software engineering role focused primarily on Python.
You’ll join a small, high‑impact engineering team building scalable software used by real customers and supporting live satellite missions. You’ll have broad ownership across the backend while collaborating with dedicated platform, frontend, command-and-control and aerospace-operations teams.
What you’ll be doing- Developing production-grade backend applications and services, primarily in Python
- Designing, building and maintaining scalable APIs
- Building reliable, performant software used in live customer environments
- Working across multiple backend services and projects
- Deploying and troubleshooting applications in Kubernetes-based environments
- Supporting software deployed in AWS and on-premises customer environments
- Collaborating closely with platform engineers while maintaining a clear focus on backend development
- Contributing to software architecture and technical decisions
- Improving the scalability, resilience, maintainability and performance of the platform
- Strong professional Python backend engineering experience
- Approximately three or more years of backend or full-stack software development experience; exceptional candidates with fewer years may still be considered
- Experience building and supporting production software used by real customers
- Experience designing, developing and troubleshooting APIs
- Experience working with Kubernetes or within a Kubernetes-centric environment
- General cloud and container experience
- Experience building scalable, reliable and performant systems
- Ability to work across different backend services rather than one narrowly defined component
- Strong problem-solving skills, initiative and the ability to work without significant hand-holding
- High standards for software quality, resilience and maintainability
- Comfort working within a smaller, fast-moving engineering organization
- Experience with in a SaaS, growth-stage or Series A-C technology company
- Experience with distributed systems or microservices
- Familiarity with software deployed in both cloud and on-premises environments
- Experience with C++, Java, Rust or another lower-level language
This is an opportunity to bring modern backend engineering practices into the space industry while working on software that directly supports real-world satellite operations.
