Senior Systems Software Engineer – Data Path

Denver, CO (Hybrid) | Up to $220,000 base + benefits | Full-time

An established leader in enterprise data storage is hiring a Senior Systems Software Engineer to work on the distributed data path at the core of a high-performance storage platform - the code that moves data between clients, the network and the media with microsecond-level latency. This is deep, low-level systems work for engineers who enjoy squeezing every last microsecond out of the stack.

What you'll do

• Design and build the distributed storage data path - the critical read/write pipeline across the cluster.
• Engineer for extreme performance: NVMe-oF, RDMA, zero-copy data movement and lock-free concurrency.
• Work close to the Linux I/O subsystem and storage protocols, tuning for throughput, latency and scalability.
• Contribute to data-protection internals such as erasure coding, and to the scale-out behavior of the system.

What we're looking for

• 8+ years (senior) to 15+ years (principal track) of systems programming in C and/or C++.
• Hands-on experience building a storage or high-performance data path - distributed I/O, not application-level code.
• Strong command of concurrency (lock-free / low-lock design) and memory- and cache-aware programming.
• Deep Linux internals knowledge: the I/O subsystem, networking stack and kernel/user-space boundaries.
• Understanding of storage protocols and modern interconnects (NVMe/NVMe-oF, RDMA).

Nice to have

• Experience with erasure coding, replication, or other durability mechanisms at scale.
• Exposure to clustered/scale-out storage and container platforms (Kubernetes).
