Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join the Content Production Technology group. The role focuses on developing, supporting, and maintaining internal tools for planning and producing NPR’s multi‑platform content. You will work with a cross‑functional team of engineers, QA, product managers, designers, and editorial staff.
Key Responsibilities- Build and maintain APIs, services, and front‑end applications as designed by senior engineers and partners.
- Write clean, efficient, and reusable code aligned with product specifications.
- Engage in all phases of quality assurance, defect resolution, and ensure high software reliability.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and advocate best practices in software delivery.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver impactful solutions.
- Participate in system design and architecture discussions with senior engineers.
- Mentor junior engineers, promoting code quality and professional growth.
- Participate in agile ceremonies and support continuous improvement of team processes.
- Assist on a 24/7/365 after‑hours on‑call rotation as required.
- 3‑5 years of software development experience.
- Proficiency in JavaScript/Type Script and C#.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs on cloud infrastructure such as AWS.
- Strong object‑oriented programming skills, familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
- Ability to build reliable and performant software under high loads.
- Experience with unit testing, CI/CD pipelines, and production system deployment.
- Knowledge of web development best practices and version control systems.
- Excellent problem solving, analysis, and troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with orchestration and automated workflows (e.g., Conductor or ORKES).
- Experience with No
SQL databases such as Elasticsearch or DynamoDB. - Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Git Hub Actions, Bamboo, or equivalent).
- Experience using observability and log aggregation platforms like Datadog.
- Passion for NPR’s content and/or familiarity with our digital products.
- Experience with audio/video workflows—including ingestion, transcoding, content management, and streaming.
This is a remote‑permitted role. Employees may work from a U.S. location approved by NPR, on‑site at an NPR facility, or a hybrid combination, subject to availability and approval.
Employment DetailsFull‑time, exempt position. Salary range for U.S. residents: $117,968 – $125,152 per year, plus benefits.
