Manager, Sports Marketing, Trail Run What will you do?

A day in the life of a Manager, Sports Marketing, Trail Run at The North Face looks a little like this.

As the Sports Marketing Manager for Trail Run, you will be responsible for managing a team of the world's best trail runners. You will play a critical role in helping athletes achieve their biggest moments while also ensuring that brand stories come through. You will work closely with the Global Brand Marketing Team and Global Product Team, integrating athletes through the product feedback and testing loop, along with overseeing the expedition process from start to finish.

You will build yearly plans around each athlete to share with the Head of Sports Marketing.

Let's break down that day-in-the-life a bit more.

  • Manage and oversee a diverse roster of the world's best trail running athletes.
  • Scout and find new talent for members of the team.
  • Negotiate athlete contracts, including retainer, bonus, athlete days, and social media expectations.
  • Be a global expert on all things trail running. Work closely with regions NORA, APAC and EMEA, to leverage athletes around the globe.
  • Focus will be on the US market, while having a global understanding of the roster.
  • Partner with product teams to ensure athlete feedback and round tables are taking place.
  • Create yearly athlete goals for each athlete.
  • Act as a conduit between our athletes and the rest of the organization, showcasing your roster’s talents both internally and externally.
  • Support TNF owned trail events across the globe with local team leads.
    • This includes international travel.
  • Identify third-party races and partnerships to support.
  • Play an advisory role in the athlete expedition proposal process.
  • Manage green-lit expeditions from start to finish.
    • This includes overseeing budget, athlete accomplishments, product integration, working with production partners, and infield partners.
  • Track and share athlete goals and accomplishments.
  • Provide monthly updates to share company-wide through the athlete newsletter.
  • Provide one-on-one assessment of each athlete's plan around their career, athletic goals, and aspirations.
  • Set up product training sessions with category managers and designers.
  • Work with the Sports Marketi ng Coordinator to facilitate the seasonal sample buy.
  • Ensure the PR and Social Media Teams are aware of any big moments, leveraging all major athlete accomplishments.
  • Oversee and or foster trail specific partnerships with key partners.
  • Provide support to other team members and verticals of the Sports Marketing Team when needed, including during the global athlete summit.
  • Always have clear and consistent lines of communication with the Global Head of Sports Marketing.

  • Background in planning, organizational, and project management.
  • In-depth knowledge of sports management and sports industry.
