PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT

The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Designed for individuals seeking to become professional non‑CDL multi‑passenger vehicle drivers over an assigned route. Learn to safely and efficiently operate a district vehicle to ensure the safe transport of passengers. Attend training sessions to understand driving regulations, practicing defensive driving techniques, and becoming familiar with various routes. Learn to perform pre‑trip inspections, manage passenger interactions, and handle emergencies. Learn and abide by all Federal, State, and District rules and regulations.

Learn how to manage passenger conduct and ensure passenger safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Learn to safely operate vehicles in all weather conditions through defensive driving, hazard awareness, and emergency response training.
  • Learn to manage student behavior and ensure passenger safety by using district‑approved behavior management and safety protocols.
  • Learn to perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, including checking fluids, equipment, and vehicle cleanliness, through hands‑on maintenance training.
  • Learn to assist students during loading and unloading with proper support techniques and accessibility training.
  • Learn to drive assigned routes and adapt to special trips (nights/weekends) with effective time management and scheduling practices.
  • Learn to complete and submit records accurately and on time by following district documentation procedures.
  • Learn to communicate effectively with Transportation staff, students, families, and school officials through ongoing communication skills development.
  • Learn to handle emergencies, delays, and incidents by applying proper reporting procedures and participating in safety drills.
  • Learn to meet all CDE and district requirements through certified training in behavior management, medical emergencies, and evacuation procedures.
  • Learn to support additional duties and evolving needs through flexibility and continued cross‑training opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE

No experience required. Previous driving experience preferred. Experience working with children preferred.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

High school diploma/GED preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

Must be 19 years of age and must maintain a valid Colorado driver's license with good driving history (must provide driving record at time of hire). Must pass District physical exam, subject to random/post‑accident/reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing. CPR/First Aid within 90 days after hire.

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must demonstrate the ability to operate various District vehicles; wheelchair lifts and restraining equipment; and vehicle wash upon completion of District training (within two weeks after hire). Must have strong public relations, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle and feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
