Location: East Lincoln High School, 6471 Highway 73, Denver, NC 28037

Contract: Temporary, 10 months, full‑time; no benefits.

Reports To: Principal.

Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule plus local supplement.

FLSA: Exempt.

Qualifications: Hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in the appropriate licensure area.

Goal: To develop in each pupil skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, foster appreciation of literature, encourage wide reading, develop critical judgment of mass media and literature, and discover and develop special talents in English.

• Teach content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism to secondary pupils using board‑adopted curriculum.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and regulations.
• Adapt material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that challenge pupils.
• Select and requisition instructional books and aids, maintaining required inventory records.
• Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small‑group, or remedial instruction as needed.
• Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions of mass media and literature.
• Encourage independent thinking and original expression.
• Evaluate each pupil’s progress in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
• Establish standards of pupil behavior to maintain an orderly, productive classroom.
• Identify pupil needs and cooperate with staff to address health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Communicate progress to parents and school counselors.
• Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the working day.
• Assist with school newspaper, yearbook, PTA programs, and essay contests.
• Administer or monitor group tests.
• Participate in curriculum and development programs.
• Extend faculty participation in committees and student activities.
• Maintain professional competence through in‑service and self‑selected growth activities.
• Perform heavy work lifting as required.
• Other duties as assigned.
