Position Details: EC Teacher Assistant, Sub Bus Driver – East Lincoln High School. Permanent/full-time/10 months/7.5 hours per day.

Nature of Work: Provides direct support to students and teachers, works one-on-one with students, leads small group activities, assists teachers, supports classroom environment for high-quality instruction and student success.

• Work one‑on‑one with students to assist with academics, behavioral challenges, and personal/self‑help skills.
• Lead small group activities and reinforce teacher‑directed lessons.
• Assist teachers with general housekeeping, clerical tasks, and personal care needs of students.
• Support classroom environment for high‑quality instruction and student success.
• Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and on field trips.
• Assist with clerical, organizational, and instructional preparation tasks.
• Ensure student safety, discipline, and engagement.
• Operate a school bus to safely transport students to and from school and activities.
• Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain discipline and safety on the bus.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must pass drug test, background check, and TB test prior to employment.
• Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any area, OR complete 30 semester hours of college coursework, OR earn passing scores on the Work Keys Test (Workplace Documents Level 4+, Applied Math Level 4+, Business Writing Level 3+).
• Valid driver’s license and driving record qualifying for North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (NCCDL).
• Ability to obtain and maintain bus driver certification and comply with all transportation safety regulations.
• Knowledge of effective methods for working with students and supporting instruction.
• Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Teacher Assistant: Grade 59 ($16.48–$22.23 per hour); plus local supplement, if applicable.

Sub Bus Driver: Grade 58 ($15.00–$17.62 per hour).

Salary based on the successful applicant’s years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position. Experience outside of this system is not recognized for pay purposes. Current Lincoln County School employees receive pay according to current pay scale.
