FLSA: EXEMPT

Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in an appropriate licensure area (EC General License, English/Language Arts License, or Math Content Areas). A lateral entry license for Exceptional Children requires a Praxis II subject assessment and at least a bachelor’s degree prior to employment.

Must be Highly Qualified in All Academic Areas.

Must be self‑motivated, self‑directed, collaborative, and flexible.

To provide each special‑needs student with the individually tailored help, counsel, and learning experience they need to make progress toward educational goals established with that student’s limitations in mind.

• Instruct and assess individual students and groups based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
• Develop lesson plans to assist EC students with appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills in accordance with IEP goals.
• Demonstrate knowledge of educational and exceptional children laws, rules, regulations, practices and trends.
• Demonstrate knowledge of educational curricula, instructional methodology and techniques, technology, cognitive development of students, and integration of these to promote student success.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the traits and characteristics of various disabilities.
• Maintain accurate records on a timely basis.
• Compile a variety of records, reports, and documentary forms for Special Education services on a timely basis.
• Gather and record data on student progress toward academic and behavioral goals on the IEP on a timely basis.
• Develop and implement the IEP in classroom settings compatible with the student’s age and developmental level.
• Perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 50 pounds of force frequently, or 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
• Other duties as assigned.
