We are working with a client seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of our growing distribution business. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working in a small-business environment, is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, and can balance day-to-day accounting with higher-level financial management. The Controller will serve as the primary financial partner to the CFO of the European based parent company and support strategic decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure financial reporting complies with applicable accounting standards and company policies
- Oversee cash flow, including monitoring receivables, payables, and working capital
- Manage banking relationships and cash forecasting
- Support liquidity planning and short-term cash needs
- Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasts
- Analyze variances between actuals and budget/forecast and provide insights to management
- Support operational and strategic planning through financial analysis
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and inventory accounting
- Ensure accurate and timely transaction processing in Quick Books
- Maintain and improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation
- Manage and develop one direct report
- Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Ensure coverage and efficiency across accounting functions
- Act as the primary financial liaison to the CFO
- Provide clear, concise financial updates and analysis
- Partner with operations and leadership to support business goals
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a small or mid-sized business
- Distribution, manufacturing, or inventory-based industry experience strongly preferred
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and “wear multiple hats”
- Experience managing at least one direct report
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and highly organized
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working independently in a lean environment
- Clear and confident communicator, especially with senior leadership
- Adaptable and proactive, with a continuous-improvement mindset
