St. Mary-St. Michael School, a Catholic elementary school in Derby, CT, is searching for a full-time Middle School Literature and Science teacher for the  academic year. Founded in 1885, St. Mary-St. Michael School strives to provide the opportunity for each child to receive an excellent education; preparing them for a lifetime of learning centered on Catholic Social Teachings.

Responsibilities would include creating an engaging learning environment that fosters academic and spiritual growth, develops 6 th , 7 th and 8 th grade students’ skills and a love of learning. The candidate should be competent at lesson planning and instructing literature and science, specifically, and ensuring students’ spiritual and academic growth.

• Develop and implement daily lesson plans that address spiritual, emotional, physical, and growth.
• Use diverse instructional techniques such as modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing.
• Adapt curriculum to meet individual learning needs.
• Promote positive behavior through redirection, positive reinforcement, and adherence to the school’s behavioral policies.
• Maintain positive communication with families through newsletters, daily updates, and as-needed outreach.
• Attend regular staff meetings and participate in annual reviews and professional development.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree and teacher certification.
• A minimum of 2 years classroom experience.
• Demonstrated ability to create engaging, age-appropriate lessons.
• Commitment to fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and faith-based environment.
• A practicing member of the Catholic faith.
