Position Summary

Derby High School seeks a qualified Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing for the 2026‑2027 academic year. The candidate will be responsible for supporting hearing‑impaired students’ language acquisition, communication skills, and overall personal, social, and academic development.

• Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
• Participate in comprehensive assessment, review and re‑evaluation processes.
• Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) in accordance with the Kansas Plan for Special Education.
• Plan and deliver intensive instruction in language, communication skills, reading, and auditory training as specified in the IEP.
• Collaborate with speech therapists and other instructional staff.
• Monitor student progress and make timely educational decisions.
• Motivate students through effective communication and feedback.
• Maintain a positive learning environment responsive to student needs.
• Comply with district policies, rules and regulations.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Current Kansas State Teaching Certificate in Hearing‑Impaired (HI).
• Desire to continue professional growth and development.
• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods; occasional lifting and movement of equipment.
• Ability to work in noisy, crowded environments.
• Regular attendance and physical presence at the job.

Position reports to the Director of Special Services and the Principal. The contract is an annual agreement for 184.5 days. Employee benefits and detailed salary information is available upon request.
