As a Petco Certified Dog Trainer, you will support Petco’s mission as a Pet Health and Wellness company by enhancing the bond between pet parents and their dog companions. You will provide one-on-one training sessions, group classes, and advice on basic training, environmental management, and customized training plans. You will engage with guests to provide 360-degree personalized solutions for the needs of pets and pet parents, and you will promote healthy nutrition, services, and essential supplies.

The Dog Trainer role consists of two core responsibilities.

• Provide World Class Dog Training Services
  • Attend and pass Petco’s 6-week Dog Trainer Instructor Program led by a Petco Certified Dog Trainer Mentor/Academy Instructor.
  • Complete all Workday Learning modules and DTIP materials per the roadmap.
  • Recommend and sell appropriate dog training classes, training, and supplies to ensure pet parents and dogs have the resources for a successful training experience.
  • Keep accurate records of training sessions, progress, and feedback.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Work cross-functionally with grooming and veterinary teams to provide holistic health solutions.
  • Complete ongoing training programs to maintain a high level of expertise.
• Provide 360-Degree Solutions for All Petco Guests
  • Provide an outstanding guest experience by engaging with guests to recommend and select merchandise and services based on needs.
  • Generate future business through a deep understanding of the guest and their pet(s) and connections to digital platforms.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of health, welfare, and proper handling of all animals.
  • Support Pet Care Center in achieving performance goals.
  • Ensure merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Complete cash register transactions and support guests with OMNI shopping as needed.
  • Adhere to operational guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Evaluate guest inquiries and refer to the Leader on Duty as needed.

• Utilize selling behaviors to provide an amazing guest experience within Pet Care Center locations.
• Contribute to a safe environment by following safety protocols; safety of partners, guests, and pets is priority.
• Be part of a collaborative culture focused on health and wellness for pets.
• Engage in career development through available training programs.

• Stage 1:
  Complete the Dog Training Instructor Program (DTIP) to become Petco Certified Dog Trainer.
  • Dog Training Apprentice: 6 weeks of instructor-led learning and development.
• Stage 2:
  Dog Trainer — run and grow the dog training business in a Pet Care Center with marketing support and access to internal resources.
• Stage 3:
  Complete the Health & Wellness Certification Program for Dog.

  Accelerated training may be available for approved candidates who can pass assessments.
