About The Role

Are you an ecologist looking to build your consultancy experience across a diverse range of terrestrial ecology projects? Do you enjoy ecological fieldwork and want to develop your technical skills alongside experienced ecologists? Are you looking for a role where you can contribute to meaningful projects while continuing to grow your career?

We’re looking for an Ecologist to join our growing team, supporting the delivery of terrestrial ecology projects primarily the North West, Midlands. Working alongside experienced Senior and Principal Ecologists, you’ll contribute to projects across a wide range of sectors, including water, energy, infrastructure and conservation, delivering ecological advice that supports sustainable development and environmental protection.

In this role, you’ll undertake a variety of ecological field surveys, support habitat and protected species assessments, and contribute to the production of high-quality technical reports through data analysis, interpretation and mapping. As your experience grows, you’ll have opportunities to develop your project management skills, build client relationships and broaden your technical expertise. As part of the APEM Group, you’ll also collaborate with specialists across disciplines including fisheries science, hydrology, hydrogeomorphology and water quality, giving you exposure to genuinely multidisciplinary projects.

To

be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Botanical identification skills, including experience of UKHab condition assessments and/or Phase 1 habitat surveys.
  • Experience preparing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and/or protected species survey reports.
  • Experience undertaking protected species surveys (e.g. bats, great crested newts, dormice, otter, water vole or birds).
  • Sound knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and ecological survey methodologies.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the Northwest, Midlands and occasionally further afield, including overnight stays where required.
