Vice President of Engineering

To provide professional and technical engineering, planning, and design that meets present requirements and future needs to insure that the distribution and transmission system is rendering safe, efficient, dependable electric service at the lowest cost.

• Develops engineering designs and specifications for the cooperative
• Prepares and manages department’s annual operating budget and capital expenditures.
• Supervises and coordinates all activities of the Engineering Department, which may include the selection and termination of employees, developing and implementing new procedures, strategic planning, resolving personnel issues, and any other departmental issues that may occur.
• Develops the four‑year engineering work plan.
• Develops the method of data collection used by the engineering consultants for short‑ and long‑range engineering plans.
• Develops, reviews and approves the Power Requirement Study.
• Develops and participates in specialized job training and safety programs pertaining to the electrical engineering field.
• Performs other such duties as assigned or directed by the General Manager.

• Must be able to apply extensive knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices in power systems engineering to resolve complex problems.
• Be flexible and timely in responding to GM as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate needs and requirements of BECi.
• Willing to oversee and facilitate in a wide variety of special projects and special reports as assigned.
• Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, and work procedures of BECi as assigned.

• A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• The individual must, within a reasonable time, become certified as a registered professional engineer.
• At least 10‑15 years of electrical engineering experience is required.
• Experience in a rural electric distribution system is highly desirable.
• Should have a sound knowledge of RUS construction specifications, the National Electrical Safety Code, and the rules and regulations of the Public Service Commission.
• Should be familiar with terms and conditions of service, rate schedules, and the cooperative policies.
• Must be able to make short‑ and long‑range engineering studies, voltage drop studies, load studies and system fault current studies.
• Must have a working knowledge of electric metering, sectionalizing equipment, and the standards and specifications for construction of all electric plant facilities.
• Should have a working knowledge of wholesale power cost trends and developments in engineering practices.
• Must be skilled in planning and designing engineering specifications to meet the cooperative’s growing requirements, which include substation and transmission line design.
• Must be able to be on an on‑call basis.
• Must possess strong organizational, analytical and project management skills.
• Must possess good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must possess good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft software, construction management software, and electrical power system analysis software.
