The overall function of this position is to supervise a crew of personnel and manage assigned work activities in the maintenance unit. The position reports directly to the Parish Maintenance Superintendent in the unit. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able perform management duties with minimal supervision. Duties entail supervising a crew of personnel to maintain DOTD's roadways, bridges, drainage ditches, and other facilities in the parish.

Work examples include supervising right- of-way clearing, tree removal, grass cutting, grounds keeping, flagging, patching, pothole repair, hot mix paving, reporting and approving daily work activities. The incumbent will participate in the DOTD structured training program, attend all continuing education classes and conferences required to facilitate a safe, effective, and efficient work environment. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service Laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR

Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

• Supervises a crew in maintaining shoulders using gravel, shell or earth. Includes such functions as blading and shaping shoulders and patching paved shoulders with hot or cold premixed bituminous material. Mowing of highway right of way.
• Supervises a crew in the repair and control of roadside facilities. Includes such functions as cleaning, repairing and replacement of catch basins, pipe culverts, paved ditches, and other minor drainage structures; manual cutting and clearing and disposal of brush and trees from the right of way; cleaning and disposing of roadside trash, and other minor drainage maintenance; repair damaged cable barrier.
• Supervises a crew in patching bituminous roadway and bridge surfaces with hot or cold premixed bituminous material. Includes such functions as hand leveling of surfaces; removal and disposal of used surface material, and repair of roadway blowups using various types of equipment (motor grader, road planer, and motor patrol).
• Responsible for the care and maintenance of mobile equipment, hand tools, etc. assigned to the crew. Trains personnel in proper equipment and tool operation. Ensures all man hours and material is reported correctly. Review and Input work order information into agile system.
