JOB DESCRIPTION
Associate Dean of Students
Contract Period: Academic year, 200 days, salaried, exempt
Supervisor: Associate Head of School
Qualifications: M.Ed. or Master's, current NH Principal Certification or eligible, minimum of 5 years of classroom experience.
Profile of an Associate Dean
The associate dean is a member of the administration team and, as such, serves as an educational leader while assisting with the management of the school and the promotion of Pinkerton Academy’s mission and vision. The associate dean works alongside the associate head of school with the planning, coordination, and supervision of activities and programs related to student life at Pinkerton Academy.
Furthermore, the associate dean is responsible for setting and carrying out policies and procedures outlined in the student planner as well as serving as a leader in all aspects of student life at the Academy. A visible presence in the Pinkerton community, the associate dean forges positive relationships with stakeholders on campus and in the greater school community.
Essential Roles of an Associate Dean
ADMINISTRATION
- Assists the associate head of school in the overall administration of the school and assumes leadership roles as assigned or in the absence of the associate head of school.
- Assists in the supervision of emergencies in cooperation with staff and public safety agencies.
- Dedicated to professional development in self and others while supporting and participating in professional growth and development.
- Demonstrates knowledge of educational law with regard to special education and 504. Remains current on changes to state and federal statutes.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Title IX and willingness to serve as a designated investigator into allegations of sexual harassment in Title IX cases.
STUDENT LIFE
- Relates to students and families with mutual respect, upholding all rights and responsibilities as outlined in the student planner, as well as state and federal regulations.
- Builds strong communicative relationships with the student body, collaborating with student leadership and focus groups on current issues.
- Collaborates with support services and outside agencies to develop plans for struggling students.
- Coordinates grade level SST cohorts and leads team meetings; may serve on 4S, Risk Assessment, FACT, and other tertiary tier groups to support struggling students.
- Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and truancy, and follows up with students, families, and teams. Creates truancy files and reports cases to DCYF as needed.
- Assists with supervision and provides administrative leadership for peripheral programs operating at the Academy, such as ALC, PASSES, ACT, and NECC.
- Assists with the planning, execution, and supervision of class orientations, assemblies, and extracurricular activities and events.
PINKERTON COMMUNITY
- Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with faculty and staff.
- Assists in providing leadership to the professional staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs for long-term and short-term planning purposes.
- Evaluates and provides feedback to academic faculty as required. Demonstrates literacy of best instructional practices and pedagogy, classroom management strategies, restorative practices, and multi-tiered systems of support.
- Supervises, evaluates, and provides feedback to the administrative assistant. Establishes and promotes a positive and welcoming culture in the attendance office.
