Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of the ASL/English Interpreting program including supervision of and collaboration with the assistant director and the pool of adjunct faculty.
  • Revise/update curriculum as needed, Serve as an informal advisor to students in the program, Create and/or participate in recruitment efforts, Coordinate program events, Maintain and support connections with the Deaf community and with interpreting colleagues both locally and nationally Engage in activity across the college in support of the overall institution.
  • The person will also teach six courses in ASL/English translation or interpretation. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester, and courses range from introductory to advanced courses in skill-development and relevant content areas.

Education & Experience:

A masters degree in Interpretation, Linguistics, or a related field, is required as are excellence in teaching, and experience in administration and interpreter education. Applicants also must be certified interpreters who are active in the interpreting profession.

Required Licenses & Certifications

Active national certification as granted by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or National Association of the Deaf is required. Membership and participation in Conference for Interpreter Trainers would also be beneficial.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Learning Management Systems such as Canvas or Blackboard and other technology-based teaching tools such as GoReact and TWA is also useful. Expertise in various interpreting models, history of the profession, current dynamics in the field and in the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf Blind and Deaf+ communities, and cultural and socio-political perspectives of the communities and the profession. Knowledge of field specific research both historic and current.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills Ability to network and recruit language models for classroom practice and discussions.

Pay Range $80,000.00 - $90,000.00/Annual The rank of the selected candidate will depend upon the candidate's qualifications. The pay range for this position is listed above. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
