Design Services Section Chief

Pay: $37.22/hr – $51.07/hr;
Trainee Status pay $35.62/hr.
Full‑time vacancy for a Design Services Section Chief with the Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Design.
Key Responsibilities- Monitors overall project work schedule within the Design Services Section to meet Bureau responsibilities.
- Schedules activities to ensure Department program goals are met.
- Represents the Bureau in Project Management functions to present, receive and analyze information for coordinated work efforts.
- Certifies to the Federal Highway Administration that all necessary engineering has been completed and permits have been obtained for Federal aid projects.
- Develops alternative engineering solutions in conjunction with others to solve problems, minimize cost or expedite the process.
- Represents the Bureau at public meetings, conferences and hearings as necessary.
- Coordinates overall work to assure a team approach to Department objectives.
- Administers agreements with consulting engineering firms, authorizing payments and negotiating fees for amended agreements.
- Advises Commissioners and Directors through special assignments and committee work in matters establishing department and division policies and programs.
- Seals and signs design documents in conformance with Department policies.
- Education and Experience: Combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in engineering (or Bachelor’s degree + M.B.A.) plus three (3) years of experience in civil engineering post‑Professional Engineer licensure; or Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus five (5) years experience; or Associate’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus seven (7) years experience.
- License: Licensed Professional Engineer in New Hampshire or licensed in another state and obtain New Hampshire licensure within one year; must hold a Civil, Civil Highway, Geo Technical, or Structural Engineering designation.
- Valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
- Motor Vehicle Record meets minimum standards.
All accountabilities must comply with State and Department rules, including risk management, safety, environmental standards, regulations and administrative orders.
Trainee OptionCandidates with an equivalent combination of 8+ years of relevant education and experience after high school, who otherwise meet requirements, may be considered and hired in trainee status.
After‑Hire RequirementsMust possess a New Hampshire Professional Engineer license within 12 months of hire.
