Position Summary
PICA Product Development is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented SMT Setup Technician to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up and preparing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production lines to ensure efficient, high-quality manufacturing. The ideal candidate has experience in electronics manufacturing, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in producing quality work.
Key Responsibilities- Set up SMT production lines, including feeders, reels, stencils, tooling, and machine programs.
- Perform production line changeovers to meet manufacturing schedules.
- Verify component part numbers, feeder locations, and setup accuracy prior to production.
- Load and replenish components while maintaining material traceability.
- Conduct first-piece setup verification and support production startups.
- Troubleshoot setup and feeder issues to minimize downtime.
- Read and interpret bills of materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, work instructions, and setup documentation.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and material control teams to ensure smooth production flow.
- Maintain accurate production and setup documentation.
- Follow all ESD, quality, and safety procedures.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and routine cleaning of SMT equipment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, and productivity.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area using 5S principles.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1–3 years of SMT setup experience in an electronics manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with SMT placement equipment, feeders, and production changeovers.
- Ability to read and understand work instructions, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds.
