Pay: $22.50/hour – $30.02/hour (work experience may qualify for higher rate). Trainee status may start at $21.63/hour.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after high school.
  • Education and experience in automotive mechanics, heavy equipment technology, or mechanics/servicing of heavy equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Other Requirements
  • Provide own standard assortment of automotive mechanic tools (1‑inch, 26 mm diameter, ½‑inch drive, test light, basic digital multimeter).
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet minimum standards set by the Department of Transportation.
  • Offers of employment are conditional upon obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License medical card unless the candidate is currently employed by the State of New Hampshire.
  • Negative result on pre‑employment urinalysis drug screen per Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements.
  • Must be able to lift/carry material weighing up to 50 lbs. intermittently.
  • Frequent climbing, reaching, twisting, bending, squatting, etc.
  • May work in inclement weather or extreme temperatures.
  • Must have a telephone or acceptable means of communication and be available 24 hours per day.
Trainee Option

Candidates with an equivalent combination of 3+ years of relevant education and experience after high school, or who lack a Class B CDL but otherwise meet requirements, may be considered for trainee status.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of apprenticeship training (8,000 hours) in automotive service and repair, heavy equipment technology, or related field.
  • Possession of Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL‑B) with air brakes.
After‑Hire Requirements
  • Must possess a valid Class B CDL with air brakes or obtain within 1 year of hire.
  • Must obtain vehicle Air Conditioning certification within six months of employment.
  • Must certify to perform State of New Hampshire Motor Vehicle Inspections within 1 year of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Diagnose all fleet equipment component malfunctions using computer software and repair manuals, determine correct procedure of repair/modification, secure correct parts, perform the repair, and road test vehicles and/or equipment to verify completed repairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance.
  • Inspect vehicles annually, perform required repairs and certify fleet vehicles conform to NH DMV safety requirements.
  • Install, inspect, and repair all variations of basic and computerized hydraulic systems of all equipment.
  • Weld/fabricate as required to repair a multitude of equipment.
  • Respond to emergency roadside repairs as assigned to provide 24‑hour fleet repair service.
  • Overhaul, repair, and replace various makes/models of gasoline and diesel computerized engines, automatic and manual transmissions, differentials, related engine components to minimize costly engine/component replacement.
  • Supervise and assume full responsibility for shop operation in Foreman’s absence.
  • Document inspections, maintenance, and repairs to maintain vehicle/equipment life‑history files.
  • On occasion operate mobile lifting crane, overhead crane or gantry crane during repairs or certain operations.
