We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Family Support Assistant (FSA) to join our team within the Children with Disabilities Service, based at The Outback in Chesterfield.
The successful candidate will work alongside a small team of other experienced FSA’s and Residential Children’s Workers within The Outback service and provide a wide range of support to children with disabilities, young people and their families in the Chesterfield and surrounding areas.
The primary focus of the FSA role is to care for children and young people with disabilities within their family homes. This will include, moving and handling, hoisting, personal care, showering and or bathing, supporting them to get up and ready for their day and supporting them to get ready for bed in the evening. We also provide support during the daytime in school holidays to allow parents some time to rest whilst remaining in the home.
The role could also include other targeted work to support identified need in the family home.
The FSA role does include early morning and evening visits, with split shifts. An example would be 6am-9am/4.30pm-6.30pm (this is only an example and not an accurate reflection due to the requirement to meet the needs of the service).
Some weekend work would also be expected on a rota basis, and you would be expected to work 5 from 7 days per week. If you were working at the weekend, we would ensure that you had the equivalent time off during the week. Enhanced payments are also made before 7am and after 7pm.
There are some tasks that will require the use of a laptop which DCC will provide, including a mobile phone. Full training will be given for IT tasks. You will be required to have the confidence to professionally challenge when necessary and to liaise with other professionals/colleagues. An understanding and interest of the issues facing disabled young people is vital.
This post requires an entry level qualification of a ‘Level 2 Health and Social Care’ (or equivalent) and completion of The Care Certificate. If you do not hold the qualification or The Care Certificate, you must be willing to work towards this once in post (within six months of the post commencing).
There is an experienced management team based at The Outback who will offer ongoing support through regular Formal Supervision, Group Supervision/Challenge Days and Team Meetings, and there is a strong commitment to induction for new workers, along with training and continuing personal development.
