The Iowa Department of Revenue’s Alcohol & Tax Compliance Division’s Sales and Excise Tax section is seeking a Revenue Auditor 2 to conduct tax audits and enforce Iowa’s tax laws.
Responsibilities- Conduct audits of tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and business organizations.
- Analyze tax returns and related records to identify irregularities or non‑compliance.
- Review tax records for accuracy, completeness, and conformance with tax laws and regulations.
- Travel to audit locations for interviews and observe business operations and accounting procedures.
- Analyze internal controls of accounting procedures to evaluate the accuracy of tax records.
- Maintain audit work papers, document findings, summarize and reconcile audit results.
- Provide detailed findings in audit reports.
- Communicate clearly with taxpayers and their representatives.
- Experience with tax auditing or accounting software.
- Advanced experience preparing, reviewing, or auditing tax returns.
- Advanced experience performing or reviewing audits and following audit procedures.
- Accounting and Auditing – Knowledge of accounting and auditing theory, methods, standards, and procedures.
- Law, Rules, and Procedures – Understanding of state accounting and auditing regulations.
- Deductive Reasoning – Apply general rules to specific problems to produce logical conclusions.
- Inductive Reasoning – Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions.
- Critical Thinking – Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches.
Applicants must live within the State of Iowa to qualify and must attach an unofficial transcript to verify credit hours. A background check, including a criminal history check, fingerprinting, and Iowa tax filing check, will be conducted on the final candidate. Travel may be required.

CompensationHourly Wage: $26.54 – $40.23.
