Staff Auditor/Accountant – Myers and Stauffer LC, Des Moines, IA.

Hours:

40 per week.
Myers and Stauffer LC is a certified public accounting and health and human services consulting firm that specializes in audit, accounting, data management and consulting services for state Medicaid agencies and the federal Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. With 45+ years of experience, we support government clients with complex healthcare reimbursement and provider compliance issues across 21 offices and over 900 associates nationwide.

Essential Functions and Primary Duties
  • Perform reviews of Medicaid provider cost reports
  • Analyze health‑care provider financial information
  • Conduct reimbursement calculations
  • Prepare written documents supporting professional decisions
  • Conduct desk reviews and on‑site audits
  • Research billing and reimbursement compliance with Medicaid or other government regulations
  • Perform all audit phases: planning, research, risk assessment, fieldwork, reporting, and related procedures
  • Review federal and state policies and regulations relevant to each audit type
  • Prepare working papers documenting scope and findings per Medicaid, other program regulations and AICPA standards
  • Demonstrate excellence in communication, data gathering, analysis, reporting, and process improvement
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of all protected health information during analysis
  • Maintain thorough electronic documentation
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in accounting or a related field
  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Internship or equivalent work experience in accounting or a related field
  • Experience in health‑care auditing and data analysis
  • Ability to review statutory/regulatory or policy language and apply requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with attention to detail
  • Proactive multi‑tasking, planning, and efficiency
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize assignments
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel based on client and business needs

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
