Job Description Overview
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Family Well-Being and Protection, Bureau of Child Protective Services, Operations Unit, Support & Training Bureau, is seeking an Administrative Support Specialist 3 to serve as the primary expert for end user support and training for the Department’s Child Welfare Learning Management System (CW LMS).
InformationThis position is open only to current full-time employees of the Des Moines Service Area. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, typically from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with possible overtime and travel within the state. The starting salary is $1,580.80 biweekly ($41,100.80 annually); new employees are eligible for a raise after completing their first six months.
Basic Purpose of This PositionServe as an expert in the use and navigation of the CW LMS, performing complex clerical duties and working closely with the CW LMS Administrator to troubleshoot issues, enhance system performance, and provide customer service to DHS staff and external entities.
Core Essential Functions- Act as the resident expert for CW LMS end users.
- Consult verbally to establish and maintain effective working relationships with field Social Workers, management staff, Central Office staff, and affiliated external entities.
- Create and maintain written, phone, and face‑to‑face communications that provide expeditious, accurate, and consistent responses to questions and issues related to the CW LMS.
- Provide input and feedback to identify training needs for all CW LMS users and develop written guidance and resource materials.
- Maintain a tracking method for questions and issues received and addressed.
- Assist the CW LMS Administrator in setting up and formatting training materials, including loading documents, recordings, and other content.
- Participate with the CW LMS Administrator in ongoing meetings with the LMS provider to stay current on system changes and enhancements.
- Assist in testing CW LMS enhancements to ensure correct operation before implementation.
- Compile various reports and complete status reports as assigned, performing additional administrative functions as required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements- Two years of full‑time experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
- Or a total of two years of education and/or full‑time experience, where 30 semester hours of accredited college coursework equals one year of experience.
- Or current, continuous experience in the state executive branch, including six months as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.
Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to type at least 40 WPM net, as demonstrated by a typing examination.
