WIC Support Staff/Outreach Specialist

General DescriptionUnder the general supervision of the Program Director with guidance from the WIC Team leader, performs varied office duties.
Characteristic Duties1. Greets public, answers phones and provides excellent customer service
2. Completes participant intake functions such as verifying participant residence, identification, and income completing demographic information ensuring voter registration activities are completed assisting participants in filling out forms
3. Issues benefits to participants, explains proper use of eWIC card to participants, maintains appropriate records.
4. Maintains computer system: maintains data entry and retrieval; prints benefits and forms; schedules appointments
5. Assumes responsibility for one or more of the following projects or skills: filing of various forms and maintains for required time:
Rights and Responsibilities, termination notices, proxy cards, Voter Motor receipts routine correspondence with clients including appointment reminders and missed appointment notification word processing using Windows and Word software translating/interpreting a foreign language including both verbal and written forms referral to community resources for food, shelter and related needs correction of participant computer records utilizing printed or verbal reports from the State WIC office Farmers Market program Participates in training and actively promotes and supports breastfeeding efforts
6. Participates in outreach activities
7. Participates in quality assurance/improvement activities
8. Perform other duties as assigned
Performance Standards1. Promptly acknowledges persons coming to the Reception Desk.
2. Promptly answers incoming phone calls within designated number of rings
3. Accurately determines reason for participant's visit and routes accordingly.
4. Accurately enters and retrieves data in computer.
5. Verifies that all steps for issuing benefits have been completed and that benefits are issued to the proper person.
6. Assures security of WIC cards checks at all times.
Minimum Qualifications1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Computer skills including word processing and/or data entry
3. Common office equipment
4. One-year experience in dealing with the public.
5. Reliable transportation
