Operations Manager
Position Description
The Assistant Highway Heavy Construction Project Manager supports the planning, execution, and successful completion of highway and heavy construction projects. This role involves collaborating with project managers, site supervisors, and contractors to ensure that all phases of the project are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Coordination:
- Assist in planning and scheduling construction activities to meet project milestones and deadlines.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and execution.
Budget and Cost Management:
- Support project cost tracking and ensure expenditures align with the approved budget.
- Assist in preparing change orders and reviewing vendor and subcontractor invoices.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed project documentation, including schedules, daily logs, and progress reports.
- Assist in preparing and distributing regular updates to stakeholders.
Quality Control:
- Monitor project sites to ensure construction meets design specifications and quality standards.
- Identify and address potential issues or deviations promptly.
Safety Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Participate in safety meetings and audits as required.
Team
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the project manager to provide administrative and logistical support.
- Facilitate communication between field teams and office staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- 2+ years of experience in highway or heavy construction, with exposure to project management tasks.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and equipment.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, B2W, Vista, Heavy Job) and general office applications.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations, such as OSHA guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with DOT (Department of Transportation) projects.
- Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) or construction safety (e.g., OSHA 30-hour).
Working Conditions:
- Combination of office and fieldwork; must be comfortable working on active construction sites.
- May require occasional travel to project locations.
