About the RoleAs a Lead Estimator, you will be pivotal in preparing detailed cost estimates for both competitive bids and negotiated projects. This role is not just about numbers; it’s about innovating and discovering efficient construction methods while developing strong relationships with stakeholders. Your work will directly align with the vision, strategy, and core values that drive JE Dunn's continued success.
- Make decisions on routine estimating matters and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Transition to the role of Senior Estimator as you grow in your career.
- Conduct thorough quantity surveys of materials indicated in project plans.
- Interpret and summarize project specifications effectively.
- Maintain an organized audit trail of quantity surveys for thorough tracking and reporting.
- Engage with vendors and subcontractors for bid solicitation and pricing coordination.
- Foster collaborative relationships with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
- Gain hands‑on experience in self‑performed estimating and field operations as opportunities arise.
- Create complex cost estimates for bids.
- Prepare thorough cost summaries and track development through project documentation.
- Develop scopes of work for all trades, ensuring clarity in responsibilities and requirements.
- Utilize your understanding of project schedules and logistics to create accurate estimates.
- Assist operations staff with project logistics and staging plans.
- Coordinate bid summaries and participate in project procurement presentations.
- Collaborate with teams to explore more cost‑effective construction methods.
- Deliver professional and comprehensive outputs at the end of major estimates.
- Leverage your knowledge to enhance project profitability and mentorship opportunities.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver accurate results efficiently.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel, and estimating software.
- Adept at reading and understanding construction drawings and specifications.
- Basic understanding of construction methodologies and operations.
- Ability to prepare detailed quantity surveys and General Requirement estimates.
- Strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships within teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of estimating experience preferred; total of 5+ years construction experience is a plus.
- Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
- Must have the capability to lift up to 10 pounds.
- Willingness to travel overnight as necessary and work non-traditional hours.
- Normal office setting with possible exposure to extreme weather conditions.
