Product Designer, UI/UX Design
Summary:
Instagram is seeking a Product Designer to help lead our Shop Everything effort. Shop Everything is our bet that any piece of content on Instagram can become a storefront — that when you spot a jacket in a creator's morning routine, a lamp in a travel Reel, or a skincare product in a friend's Story, you should be able to tap and buy it, or discover five others like it, without ever leaving the app.
We're building a world where shopping is as native to the experience as liking or commenting: seamless, trustworthy, and rewarding for the creators who make it possible. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for ensuring that our products and features are valuable, easy to use, and of the highest level of craft and this role, you will design both sides of that exchange.
On the creator side, you will empower creators to monetize their content and grow their businesses — defining how they add products to their content, how those products show up to their audience across Feed, Reels, Stories, and Profile, and how AI-assisted flows like automatic product tagging and search across millions of catalogs make earning from their content feel effortless rather than transactional.
On the consumer side, you will turn inspiration into action across the end-to-end purchase experience, from the moment of interest through consideration, cart, and checkout. That means rebuilding the product detail page around AI-assisted decision-making rather than static product information, designing a cart that persists across Instagram so people can gather things over time and return when they're ready, defining how much of a purchase someone can delegate to an AI agent and how they stay in control of it, and earning trust across a marketplace of third-party sellers with uneven product data and different ways of checking out.
The ambition on both sides is to be differentiated and forward-looking: defining new patterns and experiences rather than replicating existing ones. You will own a core area of this work end-to-end, with room to grow across the full initiative as the team scales.
Product Designer, Shop Everything Responsibilities:
Define the end-to-end creator commerce experience — from product discovery and linking, through how it surfaces to audiences, to earnings and insights
Design shoppable content formats that feel native, trustworthy, and delightful for consumers while rewarding creators
Innovate on AI-assisted creation flows (auto-tagging, cross-catalog search, product suggestions) that collapse friction and unlock new behaviors
Define the end-to-end purchase experience — from the moment of interest through consideration, cart, and checkout
Rebuild the product detail page around AI-assisted decision-making rather than static product information
Design a persistent, cross-app cart that fits how people actually browse — intermittently, without intent to buy today
Establish the interaction model for agentic purchase: delegation, control, transparency, and recovery
Design for trust across a multi-catalog world — third-party sellers, uneven data quality, and varying checkout models
Drive long-term vision for how creator commerce and conversion evolve on Instagram, and build conviction for it with leadership and cross-functional partners
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field and 8+ years of experience in relevant field
8+ years of experience building and shipping applications or software at company-level scale, leading the end-to-end experience within a large-scale, ambiguous domain
Interaction design experience with knowledge defining and evangelizing how an experience should behave based on understanding people's needs, plus consideration of how this innovation will scale and examples of the use of appropriate prototyping tools to demonstrate how a particular interaction will work
Visual design experience with proficiency in typography, desktop/mobile UI, color, layout, iconography and aesthetic sense and how these elements impact product function
