Job DescriptionSOUTHEAST POLK COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Title:
Deputy Superintendent
Salary: $175,000 (based on experience, education, etc.)
QualificationsReports to: Superintendent
Job GoalTo provide leadership in the improvement initiatives of the district, the development of the administrative and director levels of the organization, and the oversight of district programs that engage all students in learning a challenging curriculum delivered through quality instruction.
Performance Responsibilities- Serve in the absence of the Superintendent as the chief administrative officer of the district.
- Lead processes and initiatives that result in continuous district improvement.
- Oversee multiple district programs.
- Supervise, evaluate, mentor, counsel, and advise the work of building principals and department directors.
- Assist in organizing and leading the professional development of administrative leadership.
- Assume responsibility for short and long range financial considerations collaboratively with senior level administration.
- Lead meetings that: a) outline changes in law, Board policy, or administrative rules, b) explain or discuss developments and improvement efforts, and c) evaluate trends in education as they pertain to the district.
- Resolve existing district problems, assess and remedy existing or developing conditions, and address short and long term needs, while referring all unresolved matters to the superintendent.
- Support the Superintendent through the following administrative efforts: a) accepting responsibilities of the Superintendent's choosing and discharging them, b) interpreting their ideas to the staff and public, c) keeping the Superintendent informed of developments and events, and d) seeking counsel or decisions as necessary.
- In conjunction with the COO, plan and direct a program for the selection and assignment of the best-qualified employees (recruitment, selection, hiring, mentoring/induction, evaluation, termination).
- Lead the certified collective bargaining team for the district, and oversee all matters concerning district safety, security, and emergency initiatives and efforts.
- Prepare reports for, participate in, and attend Board of Education meetings and regular meetings of the Superintendent's cabinet. This includes coordinating all student discipline hearings, consent agreements, etc. between the Board of Education and building administration.
- Serve as the district Grant Coordinator.
- Remain abreast of developments and innovations in the field by reading current literature, attending appropriate professional society and association meetings and conferences, and discussing developments and mutual problems of import with others in the field.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
