Job Summary:

Drake University believes that the experience students receive from the residence hall program benefits their academic, social, intellectual, and personal growth. The philosophy of Drake University is that the student life in the residence halls is not separate from the academic mission of the University, but rather it is supportive of students' total development. The Assistant Director (AD), First Year Experience will work actively and collaboratively toward the realization of this philosophy serving as a role model, advisor, administrator, supervisor, and supporter.

The AD is a twelve month, live-in, master's degree-level (masters in College Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field required) professional who reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life. The AD facilitates the total student life experience in three First Year residence halls with approximately 600 residents. These responsibilities include programming, enforcement of community standards, supervision of undergraduate staff, and management of desk operations.

The AD also plays a role in the campus-wide elements of the First Year Experience, including Welcome Weekend, Family Weekend, and Admission's events.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field required.

* 1-3 Years if related experience.

* Demonstrable competencies in using computers, spreadsheet/database applications (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Google Doc), word processing applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

* Prior experience using Star Rez, Maxient, Starfish, Canva, and Instagram.

Job Duties:

* 35% - Supports and encourages programming by fostering a positive, inclusive community of approximately 500-900 students in the residence halls. Manages administrative needs of hall including facility concerns, occupancy, conduct audits, room assignments/consolidation, and maintains fiscal and ethical responsibility. Responsible for the initial contact with residents who violate residence hall and/or university policies through educational remedies, interventions, mediation, and restorative justice.

Supervises staff of 1 Residence Hall Area Coordinator/Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Specialist (AC),10
-20 Resident Assistants (RAs) and 1 - 2 Assistant Residence Hall Coordinators (ARHC). Plans and coordinates training and selection of student and professional staff and staff assessment modules.

* 25% - Advises hall government and Residence Hall Association and/or National Residence Hall Honorary. Serves as a liaison between Residence Life and the Office of Equity and Inclusion. Assists Director of Student Engagement, Equity and Inclusion with response to campus and student needs regarding student equity and inclusion. Assist with planning and facilitating residence life DEI programs and development sessions.

Maintain fiscal and ethical responsibility for area budget.
