Elementary Spanish Immersion Classroom Teacher
Location: St. Anthony Catholic School, Des Moines, IA
Reports To: Principal
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
Role OverviewSt. Anthony Catholic School is seeking a passionate, faith-filled, and fluent Spanish-speaking educator to join our Elementary Spanish Immersion program for the school year. The ideal candidate will provide a high-quality educational experience where students develop Spanish language proficiency while mastering core academic subjects. You will foster a classroom environment rooted in Catholic values, academic excellence, and global citizenship.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Delivery: Teach core subjects (Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts) primarily in Spanish, ensuring students meet or exceed grade-level benchmarks.
Language Development: Implement research-based immersion strategies to support students' transition from Spanish language learners to fluent speakers, readers, and writers.
Faith Integration: Incorporate Catholic teachings and values into daily lessons; lead students in prayer and participate in school liturgies.
Differentiation: Assess student progress regularly and tailor instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including those of native speakers and second-language learners.
Community Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation: Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
Language Proficiency: Near-native fluency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) and proficiency in English.
Spiritual Alignment: A commitment to the mission of Catholic education and a willingness to uphold the teachings of the Church. However, applicants need not be Catholic.
Skills: Strong classroom management, communication skills, and a collaborative spirit
Physical & Mental RequirementsAbility to navigate a classroom environment and engage with elementary-aged children.
Strong organizational skills to manage a bilingual curriculum.
Emotional intelligence to support students through the "productive struggle" of language acquisition.
