Job Description

DMPS is seeking a Teaching and Learning Coordinator who is passionate about supporting learning at the elementary level. The role works closely with literacy across the elementary grades. Experience working with multilingual learners is highly desired.

Position type:
Full‑time. The role is a 260‑day (year‑round) position. Current DMPS educators may apply even if posted outside the transfer window.

Hiring Specifications

Required qualifications:

  • Valid Iowa teaching license with elementary endorsement.
  • Five years of successful teaching experience.
  • Building or district‑level leadership experience.
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional development for small and large groups of adults.
  • Teacher leadership or administrative experience.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience working with multilingual learners.
Basic Function

The Teaching and Learning Coordinator is a strategic leader responsible for driving the district vision for high‑quality curriculum, pedagogy, and instructional practices across all schools. The role ensures the development, management, and implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum that meets the needs of every student. Coordinators work directly with principals, instructional coaches, and leadership teams to align district priorities with school‑level implementation.

The coordinator also oversees professional learning for teachers, associate principals, principals, and instructional leaders to build capacity and ensure effective instructional outcomes.

Essential Functions
  • Lead all aspects of curriculum support: RFI, adoption, professional learning, implementation, and continuous improvement for written, enacted, and assessed curriculum.
  • Develop and deliver high‑quality professional learning to teachers, instructional coaches, associate principals, and principals that builds capacity for effective, research‑based instructional practices aligned with the GLEAM framework.
  • Lead stakeholders in the design of course pathways aligned to district initiatives, state standards, and student needs.
  • Serve as a visible and responsive resource for teachers and leaders, providing high‑quality customer service and fostering transparent communication channels.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data to make informed decisions and provide timely adjustments to curriculum and instructional initiatives.
  • Manage program budget and departmental resources to ensure alignment with district priorities and compliance with state/federal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain Analyst, Curriculum Management Specialist, and executive assistants to ensure equitable distribution and management of curriculum materials across schools.
  • Remain current in developments in contemporary interpretations of subject matter and teaching methodology.
  • Partner with school leaders to implement the district’s strategic instructional vision by being an embedded member of the school instructional leadership team, co‑developing professional learning, conducting regular classroom walkthroughs to provide leadership coaching, and acting as a consultant in school improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with Data & Assessment to integrate curriculum initiatives with district and state assessment strategies.
  • Foster partnerships with local and national organizations aligned to district goals.

Other Requirements
  • Standing, walking, sitting, climbing stairs, bending/stooping, driving, ability to lift 30 pounds and carry 35 feet.
  • Working indoors the majority of the time.
