Position: Classroom Associate-Howe Elementary for the 2026-2027 School Year

Classroom Associate – Howe Elementary (2026‑2027 School Year)

TITLE: Classroom Associate
POSITION TYPE: ASOC (Full Time)

Hiring Specifications
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or HiSET.
  • Either 48 credit hours of post‑secondary education, an associate’s degree or higher, a para educator certification from the Board of Educational Examiners (or willingness to obtain within the first year of employment), a combined COMPASS score of 150 or higher, or a passing ACCUPLACER score.
  • Successful work or volunteer experience with a disabled population.
  • Supervisory experience with school‑aged children.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Ability to relate to students.
  • Ability to carry out duties cooperatively with others.
  • Basic computer skills.
Core Responsibilities
  • Support the classroom teacher in instruction and supervision of students.
  • Assist with reading and math instruction and small‑group interventions.
  • Assist with daily activities and routines of students.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers using developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Assist teachers in monitoring student progress by keeping records and giving feedback as requested.
  • Follow teacher direction for instruction.
  • Use positive reinforcement techniques to assist in behavior management throughout the school day, including transition times and recess.
  • Engage in ongoing staff development.
  • Model flexibility, enthusiasm, and patience as student needs change.
Additional Essential Functions
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
Physical and Working Conditions
  • Constant standing and walking; frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing stairs, and carrying 20 ft.
  • Mostly indoor environment with occasional outdoor work in extreme temperatures and humidity.
