Des Moines Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the 26-27 school year to serve as an Early ACCESS Teacher. This position will start on July 6, 2026. Any early childhood-endorsed applicant with a special education endorsement is encouraged to apply .

TITLE: Early ACCESS Teacher

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Valid Iowa teaching license with endorsements in PK-3 Teacher Regular Education/Special Education or PK-K Early Childhood Special Education
  • Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of family-centered practices.
  • Knowledge of child development stages in working with infants and toddlers.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
  • Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
  • BASIC FUNCTION:
    The Early ACCESS teacher's responsibilities include but are not limited to working as a member of a multi disciplinary team to evaluate, design interventions and deliver services to children birth-age 3 in their homes.

    Responsibilities include:

    providing educational services to students and their families using a coaching model of service delivery. The teacher may also serve as service coordinator to the child and family when deemed appropriate.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct screenings, assessments and evaluations for infants and toddlers in all developmental areas.
  • Analyze test results; determine eligibility Early ACCESS services.
  • Develop outcomes/goals as determined important by the family with guidance from the Early ACCESS team.
  • Provide coaching to caregivers around child outcomes based on family priorities.
  • Document cancellation of service due to child/staff illness or other reasons.
  • Maintain a systematic data collection for each written outcome to monitor child changes.
  • Write and monitor Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP).
  • Write and implement Individual Education Programs (IEP).
  • Maintain systematic data collection for IEP goals to monitor child progress and keep up-to-date records.
  • Consult and collaborate with other educators to ensure success for early access infants and toddlers through weekly team meetings.
  • Participate in a Primary Service Provider model of service delivery.
  • Utilize academic interventions and instructional strategies to maximize student achievement.
  • Determine eligibility for Early Childhood Special Education.
  • Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
  • ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
