Student Support Interventionist
POSITION TYPE: PARA
HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
- Required:
High School Diploma, HiSET, or G.E.D. - Required:
Two years of experience working with K-12 age students in problem solving, conflict resolution, or a community-based organization. - Desired:
Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field. - Desired:
Fluency in a second language. - Desired:
Experience in social work or working with at‑risk youth.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work flexible hours and additional hours as needed.
- Ability to make decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to apply District code of conduct and attendance policies to daily situations.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
- Utilize building data (attendance, SEL, tardy, behavior, on‑track for graduation) to identify students for support.
- Develop proactive strategies to work with at‑risk students, provide academic, attendance, and behavioral supports, and track students with concerns.
- Participate as a building intervention team member to implement the RTI or MTSS process.
- Conduct restorative circles to restore relationships between students, teachers, and classmates.
- Provide small‑group support and instruction as needed.
- Assist with after‑school tutoring programs to ensure student attendance.
- Supervise designated areas directed by administrators (parking lots, entrances, lockers, halls, stairways, restrooms, evening activities).
- Respond to Level II building discipline referrals and implement behavioral interventions per building and district procedures.
- Clarify student expectations and encourage responsibility for actions.
- Maintain communication with administration, school resource officers, and support staff.
- Supervise selected evening school activities.
- Respond to calls from neighboring homes and businesses regarding student behavior.
- Make home visits with the school social worker, administrator, or nurse.
- Provide court testimony in cases involving student victims or crimes.
- Respond to student reports of theft, locker problems, vandalism, or conflicts.
- Provide support and restraint (if necessary) to prevent self‑harm or breaches of discipline.
- Direct movement of students and staff in emergency situations.
- Conduct frequent safety checks and surveillance of faculty and students.
- Attend work promptly and regularly.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Constant standing and walking; occasional sitting, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, driving, lifting (50 lbs), carrying (25 ft).
WORKING CONDITIONSMostly indoors; occasional exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity.
COMPENSATIONSalary: $20.84 to $24.29 per hour
BACKGROUND CHECKAll candidates offered a position will be required to successfully pass a criminal background check, and a child and adult abuse registry check. Certain positions may require fingerprinting, a drug and alcohol test, a physical capacity test, and/or a motor vehicle record check.
