Middle School 7th Grade ELA + Social Studies Teacher

7th Grade Language Arts & Social Studies Teacher (Des Moines Public Schools, 26-27 school year)

Basic function: responsible for planning and delivering a high‑quality educational program to meet children’s academic and social‑emotional needs.

• Deliver daily lessons aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
• Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social‑emotional needs of students.
• Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
• Monitor student learning on a daily basis. Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
• Communicate with families on a regular basis.
• Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
• Participate in professional development.

• Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
• Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

• Valid Iowa teaching license with appropriate endorsement for 7th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies.
• Knowledge of subject matter, curriculum, and effective teaching methods.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication.
• Previous classroom teaching experience.
• Experience in an urban school district.

Desire to obtain conditional licensure and willingness to obtain a conditional license will also be considered.

Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying.

Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissal.
