Position Type: Full Time (7.75 hour day), contract days vary by assignment

Des Moines Public Schools is seeking a 6th Grade Math & Science Teacher for the  school year. Any teacher with a valid Iowa teaching license can qualify if willing to obtain a conditional endorsement in 6-8th grade STEM. The district will pay for the coursework in exchange for a commitment to remain for five years.

• Deliver daily lessons aligned to state and district standards promoting academic growth and social‑emotional learning.
• Plan, organize, and deliver a high‑quality educational program that meets children’s academic and social‑emotional needs.
• Create a culturally inclusive classroom that supports all students.
• Build and participate in professional learning communities at the building and district level to plan instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
• Monitor student learning daily using multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
• Communicate regularly with families.
• Participate in professional development activities.
• Demonstrate progress toward meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.

• Attend work on time and maintain regular attendance.
• Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.
• Maintain harmonious and respectful professional relationships with the public, students, and colleagues.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

• Valid Iowa teaching license with appropriate endorsement for 6-8th grade STEM.
• Knowledge of subject matter, curriculum, and effective teaching methods.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication.
• Previous classroom teaching experience.
• Experience teaching in an urban school district.

Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying.

Mostly indoors with occasional outdoor responsibilities during recess, arrival, and dismissal.
