Job Overview

Des Moines Public Schools is hiring a Board Certified Behavior Strategist for the 26-27 school year. The position begins on Aug 10, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a system for training staff on the methodology of Applied Behavioral Analysis.
  • Plan and provide professional development for special education teachers and support staff.
  • Work directly with special education support staff to develop methods for classroom management and instruction in special education classrooms.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of behavior plans for students with intensive behavioral needs.
  • Use research‑based strategies to model classroom management and instruction with students.
  • Analyze student achievement data to measure effectiveness of instructional models and strategies.
  • Meet regularly with special education support teachers.
  • Attend special education zone meetings.
  • Attend and participate in designated training sessions.
  • Review materials and programs to provide guidance for the special education department.
  • Read current research articles and professional materials.
  • Attend in‑district and out‑of‑district conferences as assigned by supervisor.
  • Additional Responsibilities (for all DMPS positions)
    • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
    • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
    Hiring Specifications

    Required:

    • Certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
    • Master's degree in Education or a related field.
    • Iowa teaching license with special education endorsement or a Statement of Professional Recognition as a social worker, school psychologist, or speech‑language pathologist.
    • Four or more years of experience working with a special needs population.
    • Experience in an urban school district.

    Position Type: Full Time (TCHR)

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Salary: $57,000 to $81,529 Per Year

    Days: 195 days |
    Hours: 7.75 Hour Day |
    Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, sitting, driving, use of computer and telephone |
    Working Conditions: Mostly indoors

    Background Checks
