Job Overview

Des Moines Public Schools is hiring a Board Certified Behavior Strategist for the 26-27 school year. The position begins on Aug 10, 2026.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a system for training staff on the methodology of Applied Behavioral Analysis.

Plan and provide professional development for special education teachers and support staff.

Work directly with special education support staff to develop methods for classroom management and instruction in special education classrooms.

Assist in the development and implementation of behavior plans for students with intensive behavioral needs.

Use research‑based strategies to model classroom management and instruction with students.

Analyze student achievement data to measure effectiveness of instructional models and strategies.

Meet regularly with special education support teachers.

Attend special education zone meetings.

Attend and participate in designated training sessions.

Review materials and programs to provide guidance for the special education department.

Read current research articles and professional materials.

Attend in‑district and out‑of‑district conferences as assigned by supervisor.

Additional Responsibilities (for all DMPS positions)

Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
Maintain confidentiality.
Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

Hiring Specifications

Required:

Certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
Master's degree in Education or a related field.
Iowa teaching license with special education endorsement or a Statement of Professional Recognition as a social worker, school psychologist, or speech‑language pathologist.
Four or more years of experience working with a special needs population.
Experience in an urban school district.

Salary: $57,000 to $81,529 Per Year

Days: 195 days |
Hours: 7.75 Hour Day |
Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, sitting, driving, use of computer and telephone |
Working Conditions: Mostly indoors
