Indefinite - Salary: $73,819 – $106,995 per year
- Minimum Experience:
3–5 years in museum education/programming - Minimum Education:
BA/BS/Undergraduate degree - Required Travel: 0–10%
The City of Chandler Cultural Development Department is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as Museum Education and Public Programs Coordinator. The position requires 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Friday, with regular weekend work on Saturdays and Sundays, but never more than every other weekend.
Essential Functions- Supervise and oversee daily operations of the assigned area, setting goals and objectives, managing schedules, evaluating performance, providing guidance and training, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions.
- Assist the Museum Manager and the Museum Senior Program Manager with program development and implementation, contributing to the Museum’s Strategic Plan.
- Collaborate with other institutions and community partners.
- Research, develop written materials and presentations for educational programs and exhibits.
- Oversee, develop program curricula and learning goals for all public‑facing programs (pre‑K, child, family, adult) across all museum facilities.
- Conceptualize, plan, and execute educational activities—including school group visits, summer camps, workshops, and public programs that align with museum exhibitions.
- Develop and oversee field‑trip programs in partnership with local school districts.
- Oversee the development of interactive aspects of exhibitions (e.g., interpretive materials) and ensure alignment with educational objectives.
- Analyze visitor feedback and program effectiveness to report findings to stakeholders and improve future programs.
- Manage, train, and schedule education staff, educators, docents, and interns, including hiring and performance evaluations.
- Knowledge of museum operating procedures, exhibit planning, development, and implementation.
- Experience developing educational programming for children and adults; appreciation of local history; marketing and public relations skills.
- Understanding of OSHA, state and county regulations and city policies related to risk management and safety.
- Supervisory experience, performance evaluation, and multitasking.
- Computer proficiency and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Professional public image and collaborative mindset.
- Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, social science, public history, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in a museum setting.
- Three (3) years of experience in education and programming within a museum.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Combination of experience and training equivalent to above qualifications.
- Clear speech and hearing, ability to convey and understand verbal instructions.
- Adequate vision and reading ability for written materials.
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and a computer.
- Physical ability to lift up to 20 pounds and work in an office environment.
