Des Moines Public Schools is seeking a qualified applicant for the 26‑27 school year to serve as a part‑time Reading Interventionist. The position starts in August 2026.

Salary: $25,000 – $40,000 per year.
Job DescriptionTITLE: Reading Interventionist
POSITION TYPE: TCHR
Basic Function: Responsible for planning and delivering a high‑quality educational program to meet children’s academic and social‑emotional needs.
Essential Functions- Deliver daily lessons aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
- Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social‑emotional needs of students.
- Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
- Monitor student learning daily and use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
- Communicate with families regularly.
- Participate in professional development.
- Demonstrate consistent progress in meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
- Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
- Valid Iowa teaching license (K‑6 Classroom or K‑8 Reading).
- Knowledge of subject, curriculum, and effective teaching methods.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
- Previous classroom teaching experience.
- Experience in an urban school district.

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator(s), Directors of Elementary and Secondary Education, Curriculum Coordinator
Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsStanding, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying. Mostly indoors with occasional outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissal.
