ELL Teacher

The purpose of the Bilingual Teacher is to provide academic instructional support to English Learners. S/he will develop and deliver lesson plans to groups and individual students, utilizing academic development language standards.

Essential Job Functions:

• Instructs English Learners for the purpose of improving their success in academics and skills
• Develops lesson plans and delivers group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines
• Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans
• Obtains training for and assists with the administration of language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student language proficiency
• Maintains organized records of documentation regarding student achievement in core courses
• Collaborates with English Learners coordinator and other staff to support students experiencing academic performance challenges related to English language learning
• Interprets student performance data and implements appropriate support structures
• Communicates and confers effectively both orally and in written form with students, parents, colleagues, and administration

Additional Duties:

• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent

Equipment:

• Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone

Travel Requirements:

• Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

• Knowledge of ELL principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with language needs
• Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
• Ability to co-teach and support students in both large and small group settings
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed
• Ability to organize and coordinate work
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

• Works in standard office and school building environments

Qualifications Profile:

• Certification/License: ELL Endorsement Iowa State Certification as an Elementary Teacher
• Education Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment. ELL Endorsement Masters Degree in related area preferred.
• Experience Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
