Position Type: Teacher, Full Time (7.75 hour day) – Contract days vary by assignment.
Salary: $50,569 to $83,640 per year.
Bargaining Agreement: DMEA
FLSA Status: Exempt
Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying.
Working Conditions: Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissal.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:
- Deliver daily lessons aligned to state and district standards, meeting students’ individual needs and ensuring growth.
- Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets academic and social‑emotional needs.
- Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
- Monitor student learning daily and use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
- Communicate with families regularly.
- Participate in professional development.
- Demonstrate consistent progress toward meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
Additional Essential Functions (for all DMPS positions):
- Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
Basic Functions: Responsible for planning and delivering a high‑quality educational program to meet students’ academic and social‑emotional needs.
QualificationsRequired:
- Valid Iowa teaching license with the appropriate endorsement code for the assignment.
- Knowledge of subject, curriculum, and effective teaching methods.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
Desired:
- Previous classroom teaching experience.
- Experience in an urban school district.
