High School Business Teacher
Des Moines Public Schools is seeking a qualified Business Teacher for the 26‑27 school year. The position will commence on Aug 10 2026 at Roosevelt High School and is a full‑time (7.75‑hour day) teaching role.
Job DescriptionResponsibilities include planning, delivering, and assessing a high‑quality educational program that meets state and district standards while addressing students’ individual academic and social‑emotional needs. You will:
- Deliver daily lessons aligned to state and district standards, ensuring student growth.
- Create a culturally inclusive classroom that supports all learners.
- Participate in building and district professional learning communities for instructional planning, data analysis, and assessment creation.
- Monitor student learning daily, using multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
- Communicate regularly with families.
- Participate in required professional development and comply with the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
Essential role requirements include:
- Valid Iowa teaching license, preferably with a 5‑12 Business endorsement or equivalent authorization.
- Knowledge of subject matter, curriculum, and effective teaching methods.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication effectiveness.
- Proficiency in using technology to support instruction.
Preferred qualifications:
- Previous classroom teaching experience.
- Experience in an urban school district.
- Familiarity with culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Attend work on time, regularly, and reliably.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional relationships with the public, students, and colleagues.
- Assist with duties as assigned by supervisors.

DESCRIPTION:
Full‑time position, salary range $50,569 to $83,640 per year.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
- Must pass a criminal background check and relevant registry checks; additional checks may be required.
Full‑time status includes applicable district benefits, such as health insurance, retirement plan eligibility, and professional development support.
