Job SummaryDes Moines Area Community College seeks a qualified full-time faculty member to provide high-quality, competency-based instruction in Construction and Building Trades. Teaching responsibilities include classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction aligned with the College’s philosophy and educational objectives. Assignments may involve evening or off-campus teaching, individualized or competency-based instruction, and online/distance learning.
Essential Functions- Teach assigned courses according to established syllabi and competencies.
- Develop and implement diverse instructional strategies and delivery methods that address varying student learning styles.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
- Prepare and maintain current course materials, syllabi, and lecture/lab content.
- Clearly communicate course requirements, evaluation methods, and attendance policies to students.
- Collaborate collegially within the academic environment, participating in program and college initiatives, events, and committees, including advisory activities and student organizations.
- Monitor and document student progress, attendance, and competency attainment; submit required reports promptly.
- Maintain office hours and provide academic support to students outside of class.
- Participate in the ongoing development and revision of curriculum, competencies, and instructional materials.
- Advise students academically and refer them for additional support when needed.
- Promote the Construction and Building Trades program through outreach and recruitment activities.
- Engage in professional development and stay current with industry standards and educational practices.
- Associate degree or diploma in the subject area or completion of a U.S. Department of Labor-recognized four-year journeyman carpenter apprenticeship.
- Minimum of three years of non-teaching, related work experience.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
- Experience utilizing alternative instructional delivery systems to enhance student learning.
- Background in curriculum development and learning assessment.
