Job Description

Des Moines Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the 26-27 school year to serve as aSocial Studies Teacher. This position will start as soon as possible and will teach 2 periods of AP US History daily. Only teachers trained to teach AP US History will be considered.

Schools currently hiring for this position include:

  • East High School

This position is PART-TIME (about 10 hours per week) and does not confer insurance benefits.

This position is only guaranteed for the 26-27 school year.

TITLE: TCHR General Education Teacher K-12

POSITION TYPE: TCHR

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:

Required
  • Valid Iowa teaching license (appropriate endorsement code for teaching assignment).
  • Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
Desired
  • Previous classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience in an urban school district.

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for planning and delivering a high-quality educational program to meet children's academic and social-emotional needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
  • Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students.
  • Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
  • Monitor student learning on a daily basis. Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
  • Communicate with families on a regular basis.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position)
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator(s), Directors of Elementary and Secondary Education, Curriculum Coordinator

BARGAINING AGREEMENT: DMEA

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

FT/PT: Full Time (7.75 hour day),(Contract days vary by assignment)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, lifting carrying

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissal
